ttyUSB is for serial devices. This is reporting as a HID device. It may show up as /dev/usb/hiddev1 or similar.

  • ok, thank you my friend...I try to use 'softwedge -c /dev/usb/hiddev1' and I get error message 'Can't open serial port: /dev/usb/hiddev1'. maybe do you know why?

Please add the output of lsusb -v -d 23d8:0285 to your question. You may also try modprobe usbserial vendor=0x23d8 product=0x0285, though it's doubtful that it will work.

  • @StephenHarris a USB device can have multiple interfaces -- I don't think that that card reader is only presenting a hid interface, especially since it also has a RS232 connector, according to the manual

    – mosvy

  • @mosvy: But if it is presenting the HID interface by default, the interesting part is how to get it to switch to the standard serial interface. There are multiple ways to do that, and it depends on the hardware which way is implemented; one way is to send a special HID event, which is why one may need the HID interface (though only once, to make it switch). But lsusb -v should narrow that down.
