1. I want to automate the following procedure in Audacity v2.1.2, by pressing a
single key, key-combination, or clicking on something handy.
The procedure is: Replace a selected section of waveform with 1 second of
silence.
To do this manually, I do the following. Select a section of waveform. Select
Generate/Silence from the Menu. Click the down arrow in the Duration box, then
select "hh:mm:ss + milliseconds", then enter a Duration of "00h 00m 01.000s" (1
second). Click OK. The selected section of waveform is changed to 1 second of
silence.
2. I've tried using File/EditChains to automate it but it doesn't work properly.

3. I believe Tools/Macros is also a way to automate procedures but there is no
"Tools" or "Macros" in my Audacity.
