I recently installed gentoo and I'm installing chromium. This package takes hell long compiling, so I tried to emerge another package at the same time: xfce4-meta. I'm surprised portage led me emerge two packages at the same time from different calls while any other package manager I've used wouldn't allow that, so I came here to ask: Why did it let me? Isn't it dangerous? Does portage manage dependencies correctly that way? Have I just broken my dependency tree? I have also edited the world file while emerging. I'm afraid I messed it up :'l
Basically I did:
# emerge --ask chromium &
# emerge --ask xfce4-meta
Instead of:
# emerge --ask chromium xfce4-meta
And It worked.
