Faujdarhat Cadet College, is a military high school (grade 7 to grade 12), modelled after public schools in the UK (according to the Public Schools Act 1868), financed partially by the Bangladesh Army, located at Faujdarhat, near Chittagong, in Bangladesh.

History

Faujdarhat Cadet College boards 300 boys between the ages of 12 and 18, 50 in each year for grades 7 to 12. Admission is through a nationwide test composed of written, oral & medical examinations.

It was the first cadet college to be established by Field Marshall Muhammad Ayub Khan in erstwhile East Pakistan facing the Bay of Bengal. It was established on 28 April 1958.^[1] Until 1965, it was known as the East Pakistan Cadet College.

The principal of the school is ranked lieutenant colonel, and is appointed by the Adjutant General's branch of the Bangladesh Army.^{[citation needed]}

From 2003, the cadet colleges in Bangladesh were converted to the English version of the National curriculum.^{[citation needed]}

Academic system

Cadets are enrolled in the seventh grade and continue their study for six years. They follow the English version syllabus of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board.^[2] The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) is the final examination to pass.

Each class generally has fifty students. The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations are administered under direct control of the Board of Education of Dhaka Division. Cadets secure top positions in board examinations each year.

Reunion Programs

Reunion 2014

Old Faujian Association organizes reunion in every four year. As a part of it, they organized a reunion in 2014, from 25 December to 27 December.^[3]

Diamond Jubilee Reunion

On 18 January 2018, the Old Faujian Association organized an event called Diamond Jubilee Reunion. Chief of Army Stuff, general Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Haque cut a cake and inaugurated the event.^[4] The program lasted for three days. It started on 18 January and ended on 20 January. On the second day of the program, legendary singer of this subcontinent, Runa Laila performed in the occasion.^[5]

• Dr Atiq Rahman, Executive Director of BCAS, is a prominent environmentalist, scientist, development expert and a visionary thinker in South Asia. He is well known worldwide for his pioneering role and contribution to environment and nature conservation, climate change, Poverty alleviation and sustainable development. He was honored with the highest UN- Environmental Award, the Champion of the Earth, for the year 2008 in recognition of his outstanding and inspirational leadership and contribution globally, regionally, nationally and locally, to the protection and sustainable management of the Earth's environment and natural resources. Another outstanding achievement in the same year given by the Government of Bangladesh was the National Environment Award (Poribesh Padak) for the category of innovative environmental research and technology development.


• Anis ul Islam Mahmud has been elected as a Member of Parliament from 282 Chittagong-05 constituencies in the 10th National Parliamentary Election in 2014. He is the Cabinet Minister (sinceJanuary 2014) of the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He was also elected to the Bangladesh National Parliament (Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad) in 1979, 1986, 1988 and 2008. As a Member of the Parliament of 9th National Parliamentary Election, he served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Expatriates Welfare & Overseas Employment. Moreover, He served as a Cabinet Minister from 1984 to 1990, Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1988 and 1990, Minister of Education in 1988 and held the additional charge of the Ministry of Irrigation, Water Development and Flood Control. He was the Minister of Irrigation, Water Development and Flood Control from 1985 to 1988. During this period he also briefly held the charge of the Ministry of Information. He served as the Minister of Labour and Manpower in 1985. Mr. Mahmud was the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Control Board from 1989 to 1990. He was also the President of Bangladesh Flying Club Ltd. from 1987 to 1990.
