Ask for Jane is a 2018 American historical drama film created and produced by Cait Cortelyou, an advocate for Planned Parenthood, and written and directed by Rachel Carey. The film stars Cait Cortelyou, Judith Arcana, Cody Horn, Alison Wright, Sarah Ramos, Chloe Levine, Danny Flaherty, Sarah Steele, Lilly Englert, Ben Rappaport, and Sophie von Haselberg. The film was released in 2018.[1]

Plot


Ask for Jane is based on the historic true story of the underground abortion network in Chicago between 1969 and 1973. The Jane Collective helped over 11,000 women obtain illegal abortions before Roe v. Wade was passed to allow legal abortions in the United States and many members of the collective were arrested. Ask for Jane is the first ever narrative feature film about the Jane Collective.[2][3]



Cast


Judith Arcana, a writer, activist, and real-life member of the Jane Collective is a consulting producer on the film, in addition to making a cameo appearance.[4][5]

Production and release


The film is produced by Caroline's Entertainment's Caroline Hirsch and NYEH's Entertainment Josh Folan.[7] It is written, directed, and produced by women and passes the Bechdel test.[8] The film received a production grant from Awesome Without Borders.[9][10] In 2016, the limited series Ask For Jane was one of three finalists in the New York Television Festival Works 4 Progress Initiative.[11][12][13]


Filming was completed in New York City in 2017 and the film is set to be released in 2018.
